2016 Honda Civic Power Plants are Surfaced

MANILA: The 2016 Honda Civic is officially debuted in the North America market with its new set of powertrain options. Two in-line four-cylinder engines with dual overhead cams (DOHC) and Variable Valve Timing Control (VTC) are available, to name them, a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated motor and a 1.5-litre turbo unit.

Both these engines adopt pistons with “cavity-shaped” and skirt design which will minimize vibration and enhance operating efficiency. Another process known as plateau honing further lowers down the friction level pistons and cylinders. The lightweight steel connecting rods are heat-forged to increase the strength as well.

The power output of the 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine read as 158 hp at 6500 rpm and 187 Nm at 4200 rpm while of 1.5-litre turbo unit, the figures are 174 hp at 5500 rpm and 220 Nm in between 1800 and 5000 rpm. The transmission option for both the engines is an updated CVT automatic option which features new-generation G-Design shift logic offering better driving feel. A six-speed manual transmission is also available but only for Civic which are fitted with 2.0-litre engine.

Talking about the performance figures, the 2.0-litre engine six-speed manual combination will deliver an estimated combined fuel economy of 13 kmpl. The CVT-fitted 2.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo mill will give 15 kmpl of fuel economy. Both these engines also meet the EPA LEV3-ULEV125/LEV3-SULEV30 emissions standards.
