2017 Honda Civic Type R Prototype Revealed

MANILA: Since its launch, Honda Civic has become quite a sensation in the automobile industry of not only the Philippines but globally. It was confirmed that the Japanese automaker will come up with Type R version of Honda Civic soon and now the 2017 Honda Civic Type R prototype has been revealed. It is not long that the Civic hatchback version was introduced in the European and North American market, even the hatchback version of Honda Civic was showcased at the GIIAS 2016 in Indonesia and now another avatar of Civic is out. The Civic Type R is scheduled to be showcased at this year’s Specialty Equipment Market Association or SEMA show and with this the Type R will make its official entry in the North American market.

At exterior, the “H” badging can be seen on the grille. The front fascia has been evolved to give more aggressive look and winged carbon fibre splitter along with sporty red accent line further accentuates the design. The slatted ducts are incorporated to add width to the hot hatch and diamond-mesh inserts fill the sculpted air intakes in an effective manner. The hood has also a new intake with an air scoop sited centrally in a trapezoidal recess. The smoked lenses of the LED headlights, indicators and side indicator repeater lights further hint towards the aggressive character of Type R.

At sides, Carbon fiber side skirts run the length of the side sills. Even at the rear, carbon fiber is quite prominent as a diffuser runs below the wide rear and center-mounted exhaust pipes. The 20-inch piano black alloy wheels with red accents and 245-section high-performance tyres further improves the sportiness of the Civic Type R. The powertrain options of Honda Civic Type R not revealed yet but, it is expected that it will have a turbocharged engine with at least 310 PS maximum power, matching the other competitors of the segment.

The upcoming 2017 Civic Type R will be manufactured at the UK Manufacturing plant in Swindon, the global manufacturing hub for the five-door hatchback. For the Philippines, there is no official word from the manufacturer about the Civic Type R launch but, we might get this hot hatch sometime in 2017.
