2019 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon: First impression

Last month, Jeep Philippines gave us a reason to rejoice by launching the 2019 Wrangler in the country. And now it has once again given us an opportunity to celebrate by bringing in its latest Wrangler Rubicon. Auto Nation Group (ANG), the official dealer of Jeep vehicles in the Philippines, launched the Rubicon at the recently concluded 2019 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS).

then this new Jeep would prove to be one of the best off-road vehicles for you. The 2019 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon price that has been set for our country is Php 3.99 million. So let’s find out how it stands up against that figure in our first impression.

Exterior

The new Rubicon looks similar to its sibling. It has got a Jeep-ish look due to it which no one can mistake it for any other vehicle rather a Jeep. The front fascia shows off its bold and muscular vertical slats which are now thicker than before. The round headlamps continue to carry forward the legendary Jeep look.

The front bumper and side fenders are painted in black to give them an even sturdier appearance. Mind you, they don’t just look sturdier, they indeed are. Also, the silver fog lamp surroundings at the front bumper contradict the entire black unit.

The side profile of the Wrangler Rubicon is boxy yet super attractive. Those large fenders nicely cover the wheel arches and emanate muscularity and seriousness. Also, the large 17-inch wheels with aluminium polish look fantastic and the beefier tires on them make things even better.

The rear end of the Jeep continues to have the familiar tail light setup. The spare wheel mounted on the boot lid further adds to the sex appeal. Overall, the new 2019 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon looks brilliantly done and extremely desirable.

Interior

Yes, we know that the Wrangler Rubicon looks very solid, muscular, and rugged from the outside. However, from the inside, it’s nothing but comfortable. The seats are designed to offer the highest amount of comfort and support and there’s ample space for all the occupants. There are features inside the cabin which make it a technologically sound vehicle.

For example, the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system comes with Jeep’s fourth generation Uconnect system that includes pinch-to-zoom, performance improvements, faster startup times, enhanced processing power, and heightened touchscreen responsiveness. There’s also an 8-speaker audio system and an integrated voice command system.

The outside visibility is amazing thanks to the large windows and windscreens. Also, because of the high-rise riding position, the Jeep gives you a commanding driving experience. Jeep has provided a number of other features to offer maximum utility and style at the same time.

Engine and performance

The 2019 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon specs list two engine options - a 2.0-litre inline 4-cylinder turbocharged unit which produces 272 PS of max power and 400 Nm of peak torque, and a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 that churns out 290 PS of max power and 353 Nm of peak torque. As far as the gearbox is concerned, there is only a single 8-speed automatic transmission available that comes with both the engine options.

While both these engines help the Rubicon to perform brilliantly on the off-road terrains, it’s the Rock Trac 4x4 system that brings out the best of this vehicle. This system is equipped with Tru-Lok locking differentials which make it traversing through conditions like rocks, sand, and slush pretty easy.

Safety features

We’re glad to report that Rubicon comes with a number of good safety features like airbags, advanced brake assist, blind spot and cross path detection, electronic roll mitigation, electronic stability control, hill descent control, hill start assist, rear parking assist, rearview camera, etc.

So far we’re quite impressed with the 2019 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. It’s a capable off-road vehicle that provides with more than necessary features to behave like an everyday utility car. But one thing’s for sure, driving this beast around town would definitely going to grab you a lot of attention.
