Zigwheels PH weekly wrap: Apr. 6-10

MANILA: Last week was a busy one for the local auto industry, with the 2026 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) in the same period. Outside the motor show, with its abundant product launches and aftermarket items on sale, are other stories that drove the trade of automobiles and motorcycles. 

For one, a Japanese company announced its plans to produce electrified vehicles locally, while other global launches appear to have some impact on the Philippine auto and moto scene, one way or another. 

Delivering you an abridged version of last week’s biggest stories, here is Zigwheels Philippines’ weekly wrap-up.

MIAS 2026 recap 

Zigwheels Philippines and sister platform Carmudi Philippines are proud media partners of MIAS 2026. 

For those who are unable to attend the first — and busiest — day of the event, here is a quick recap of what transpired that day. 

MIAS 2026 opened with a quick ceremony with some of the prominent figures of the Philippine automotive industry. 

The opening formalities were quickly followed by launches from participating brands. A collection of the models rolled out during the event can be found below:

All throughout the four-day affair, aftermarket manufacturers catered to the needs of car owners looking to dress up and care for their rides. 

Makina Moto Expo 

The local motorcycle sector also had its fair share of buzz over the weekend as the Makina Moto Expo was held over the time. 

Some notable launches include Kawasaki Philippines’ “Art of Power” display that showcased some of its popular nameplates, as well as Honda Philippines Incorporated’s three-bike presentation. 

Finally, Suzuki Philippines Incorporated wowed event-goers by rolling out the DR160, V-Strom 160. 

Likewise, aftermarket conglomerate BSB Junrose revealed that it is now the official partner of Brembo brakes in the Philippines. 

Other stories 

In other news, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation expressed its plan to manufacture hybrid vehicles locally. Should conditions prove to be conducive for hybrid car production, the plan will commence in 2028. 

On the other hand, Ford Motor Company Philippines expanded its lineup with the addition of the Mustang Mach-E RWD. 

Deepal also officially entered the local market under the stewardship of the Autohub Group of Companies. 

Overseas, former Bond actor Daniel Craig is the new face of Denza. Meanwhile, Suzuki’s Indian arm has updated the Burgman, leaving many fans waiting for the model to be sold in the Philippines.

The same question can be asked after Kia presented the EV3 and next-generation Seltos at the 2026 New York International Auto Show.
