2019 Suzuki Ertiga - All you need to know

2019 seems to be an excellent year for the Philippines auto industry. Supporting our claim is the fantastic lineup of launches including the one from the Japanese automaker Suzuki.

The automaker recently launched the all-new Ertiga, the seven-seater MPV that packs looks, features, and power. In the Philippines market, the 2019 Ertiga will rival with the likes of Toyota Avanza, Mitsubishi Xpander, and Honda Mobilio.

Suzuki has adopted a whole new look for its MPV, not shared/borrowed with any of the existing cars in the lineup. This makes the arrival of Ertiga all the more special, and also despite being an MPV,

the car has dropped the dull, boring image that is usually attached to the segment. Also, with the new Swift and 2018 Dzire, there seems to be no stopping for Suzuki Philippines.

Platform & dimensions

• The new Ertiga sits on Suzuki’s ‘HEARTECT’ platform. The same setup supports the next-gen Swift and 2018 Dzire sedan
• Compared to the previous year model, the new Ertiga is a grown vehicle. The car now measures 4395 mm X 1735 mm X 1690 mm (LXWXH), thus making it 130 mm longer, 40 mm wider, and 5 mm taller. The wheelbase remains same at 2740 mm
• Courtesy to its bigger dimensions the car now offers more headroom and legroom

Exterior design

• One of the best parts about the new Ertiga is its striking modern design theme. It’s fresh, unique, and gives the MPV a new vibe altogether
• The car features an aerodynamic body with deeper curves, refined chrome accents, and a dynamic shoulder line
• The front now showcases a taller and broader nose that’s accompanied by a stylish grille, new projector headlamps, appealing fog lamp casing, and sportier bumper
• The side profile is decorated by multi-V patter 15-inch alloy wheels, and electrically folded outer rearview mirror with turn indicator
• One utility-pron feature here is the door stoppers that ensure a smooth egress and ingress movement
• The rear features heavily revised tailgate and taillights. The design theme here takes a more angular and sharp path

Cabin setup

• The beige color cabin gives an airy and open feeling to the interior, plus the woodgrain trim on the higher variant adds to the premium-ness
• The Ertiga can accommodate seven individuals at once. However, its flexible seats can be folded to adjust large amounts of luggage
• Though offered with a manual air-con control, the entire setup including the second and third-row vents is effective

• The D-shaped steering wheel comes with controls for audio and telephony
• Multiple storage and charging options can be found in the cabin, included in the list are ventilated cupholders and bank notes/coin holder
• While the driver gets a height adjustable seat, the second-row features sliding seats with 240 mm slide length

Comfort and convenience

• A 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports navigation, smartphone mirror link, AM/FM radio, Bluetooth, and USB and Aux connectivity (available in the top variant)
• 8-inch touchscreen display in mid-range and 1-DIN sound system in entry-level variant

• Adding to driver’s convenience is a keyless push start system and interactive meter cluster

Engine

• Replacing the old 1.4-litre unit is a new 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine
• This mill produces 103 PS of power at 6000 rpm and 138 Nm of torque at 4400 rpm
• Like the previous model, the 2019 Ertiga too is offered with two transmission options - a five-speed manual and four-speed automatic

Safety and security

• New Ertiga’s front bumper, windscreen wiper, bonnet, and other parts are designed to absorb impact in the event of a collision, thus protecting the pedestrian from head and leg injuries
• Standard safety features available are - ABS with EBD and BA, Dual SRS airbags, immobilizer, ISOFIX anchors for the child seat, and side impact door beams
• Limited to top variants are - rear parking sensor and reverse camera
