2020 Honda City - Features we love

Honda recently unveiled its brand-new 2020 City in Thailand and this became global news because, of course, it is pretty popular around the world. Our first impression of the 2020 Honda City has been quite positive; however, we could tell more about the car only when it gets here in the Philippines. But what we can share with you guys right now is the features of the new City that we love.

New Turbocharged Engine

This has to be the most significant change in the new 2020 Honda City specs. The City finally gets a turbocharged engine. And it isn’t just a normal engine. It is a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder unit that churns out 122 bhp of max power and 173 Nm of torque. These figures are higher than those of the 1.5-litre engine, which the current City has.

Following is a quick comparison of the two engines-

Engine type Old 1.5-litre New 1.0-litre turbocharged
Displacement 1497 cc 998 cc
No. of cylinders 4 3
Max power output 118 bhp 122 bhp
Max torque output 145 Nm 173 Nm
Transmission  CVT

You can clearly see that even with one less cylinder, the new turbocharged engine produces more power and much more torque. This also means that the new City would give out better fuel efficiency. Honda claims that it can do 23.8 km to a litre and is 33% more efficient than the previous model.

RS Variant

Honda tends to provide a sportier City RS variant of its products but the City didn’t have it until now. Finally, Honda has added an RS variant to the City and this makes it another ‘first’ for the car.

What’s the RS variant all about?

Ans. Well, the Honda City RS will, obviously, be sportier to look at than the rest of the fleet. It will have larger 16-in alloy wheels and an exclusive ‘ignite red’ colour which looks fantastic. There would be a different colour highlight at some places in the car, and it would also have a different material seat.

Revised Interior

The interior of the new City will be welcomed by the people with open arms. It is so much better than that of its predecessor. Honda has included various vertical elements, like the AC vents, which give the cabin a fresh and premium feel. We also like the fact that Honda has added more premium material to the dashboard.

What about the cabin space?

Ans. Although the new City is longer and wider than before, it has a shorter wheelbase, which pops up a concern in people’s minds about the interior space. However, and thankfully, Honda claims that the new City has more interior room than that of the previous model. This is something that we would have to see once the car arrives at the dealerships here in the Philippines.

The new Honda City also features a large touch screen infotainment system, which now supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, another addition that will be loved by many.

New Exterior Look

The fifth-generation City definitely feels like a new car thanks to the exterior design and styling changes. There are various exterior features that we really like.

LED Headlamps

The new set of LED headlamps give the City a much sportier stance than ever. Combine them with the new and more prominent front grille and LED daytime running lights, and we think the City looks like the new Civic. Don’t you think so?

LED taillamps

Just like the front, we have a pair of new LED taillamps at the rear. These lamps look more modern and have a signature LED light running across them. Their design also has a 3D effect which can be felt by touch.

These were some of the features of the new City that we love. And we would also like to experience the car in person. About that, right now, Honda Philippines hasn’t said a word as to when the new City would be joining us here in our country, but we are expecting its arrival sometime in the first quarter of 2020.

As its launch time would near, we would get to know whether it will be available with more than one engine option or not. As for the price, the current-gen Honda City price starts at Php 820,000, which means that the 2020 Honda City price would start above that.
