2020 Kia Mohave previewed ahead of the launch in South Korea

MANILA: Remember the Kia Mohave that was offered in the Philippines a few years ago? Yes, the same large South Korean SUV that failed to accumulate the sales figures that Kia assumed it would. As a result, Kia took no time in discontinuing the SUV in the Philippine market and shifting its focus to other mass-market offerings in its lineup.

While we Filipinos haven't had much closeness with the Mohave, Kia is still considering it to be one of its major competitors in the segment. Following the preview of the Masterpiece Concept at the 2019 Seoul Motor Show, earlier this year, the automaker has now revealed images of the final production model of the SUV. And, to no surprise, the SUV is called Mohave.

The newest model of the body-on-frame SUV by Kia appears pretty much identical to the Masterpiece Concept, albeit with a few cosmetic tone-downs, which always the case with concept-based production models. The headlamps upfront appear to be a part of the wide grille and feature LED components. Then we have dual vertically stacked LED fog lamps on either corner of the front bumper.

At the rear, the all-new Mohave gets a pair of large LED taillights which are conjoined by a thick red trim. There are also dual-exhaust outlets on both sides at the bottom. The side profile of the 2020 Kia Mohave is propped by chunky alloy wheels, roof rails, and running boards. There is no Kia branding either at the front or rear end of the SUV, which is quite surprising.

While the South Korean automobile manufacturer hasn't revealed any details about the powertrain of the SUV, we expect the 2020 Mohave to get a 3.0-litre V6 motor. The 2020 Kia Mohave, also the second-largest SUV by the automaker, should be making its way to the launch-pad sooner than later. And, we would love for Kia Philippines to re-launch the body-on-frame SUV in the local market, especially because of the booming SUV and crossover segments in the country. How about you?
