2020 Mustang Shelby GT350R comes sporting GT500’s stuff
MANILA: It was 2015 when the Mustang Shelby GT350R made its way out of the production line for the first time with deft handling, impressive aerodynamics, active suspension by Magneride, and last but not least, the punchy V8. Fast forward to 2019, and the younger sibling of the Mustang Shelby GT500 is now quite popular and loved as much as any other Mustang has been over the years. Besides that, the recent launch of the newest iteration of the Mustang Shelby GT500 that comes with 770 hp under its hood made it inevitable for the GT350R to receive its fair share of the newness.
"It’s always been our plan to take the latest innovations from the GT500 program and strategically apply them across the Mustang lineup. These latest updates to the GT350R keep its performance competitive and on the top of its game, whether that’s on the track or on the street", said Ed Krenz, Ford Performance chief program engineer. Hence, the advanced technology and features of the Mustang Shelby GT500 have finally made their way to the smaller GT350R.
While the all-new Mustang Shelby GT350R is already a mean beast, you can further enhance the performance by shedding some weight off your favourite Mustang. The removal of the rear seats and exhaust resonators along with the addition of the carbon fibre alloy wheels can make your GT350R both lighter and better than the other standard model. Furthermore, the addition of a new steering rack in conjunction with a recalibrated electric power steering has made the handling of the Mustang Shelby GT350R a lot more responsive and agile.
Powering the Mustang Shelby GT350R is the same 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated Voodoo V8 engine as before. The power figures read 533 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 581 Nm. This Mustang is a delight for the purists as a Tremec's six-speed manual gearbox is the only available transmission option. On the inside, the Mustang Shelby GT350R gets blind-spot monitoring system, cobra puddle lamps, voice-activated navigation, twelve-speaker sound system by Bang & Olufsen, and much more. How bad do you want the Mustang Shelby GT500, GT350R, and the GT350 to land on the Philippine shores?
