All-new 2020 Honda City is turbocharged with RS variant

MANILA: Honda will not be left behind when it comes to the B-segment sedan race, offering an all-new Honda City with a turbo-powered engine.

Launching on November 29 in Thailand, the new Honda subcompact car is powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder DOHC gasoline engine that can churn out 122 hp of maximum power and 173 Nm of peak torque partnered to a CVT. The new mill is said to be 33 percent more efficient than the prior model and can do a 23.8 km run per litre. The engine is also Euro 5 emission standard compliant. 

In terms of size, the new fifth-generation City is 100 mm longer, 53 mm wider and 28 mm lower than its earlier model. Besides the larger dimension, the design is similar to the rest of Honda’s current lineup but with minor tweaks.

The front façade has a tempered appearance with its soft-curve bonnet, minimalist front grille with mesh design, sharp-looking LED headlights and caged fog lights at the bottom. The sharp look is continued at the rear with LED narrow tail lights. The new Honda City rides on 15-inch alloy wheels with an available 16-inch as an option. A more sporty-looking Honda City can be had with the RS variant.

Inside the cabin, the 2020 Honda City has better insulation and a chunkier engine undercover that minimizes noise and vibration for a smoother and more comfortable ride that can make being stuck in traffic a lot bearable. The new Honda compact sedan also features an all-new dashboard design and fabric or leather option for the seats.

No words yet as to when the new 2020 Honda City will arrive here in the Philippines but our wild guess is it won’t be this year as the fifth-generation Honda City will have its public unveiling this weekend at the 36th Thailand International Motor Expo 2019.
