All-new Mazda CX-5 launching in the Philippines at the MIAS 2017

MANILA: The updated Mazda CX-5 has already proved its metal in its home country, Japan. Now, the Japanese automaker is gearing up to repeat the success story in the Philippines as well. The updated Mazda CX-5 is all set to make its Philippines debut at the upcoming MIAS 2017 and the manufacturer has already started taking measures to meet the surplus demand of the updated Mazda CX-5.

Mazda has just announced that it will start the production of the second generation CX-5 at the Hofu Plant in Yamaguchi. Currently, Mazda CX-5 is being produced at the Hiroshima plant. With this flexible production system, the company will be able to meet its global sales demand of 1.65 million units. This is a part of the company’s “Structural Reform Stage 2 medium-term business plan” which runs from 2017 to 2019.

After CX-3, Mazda CX-5 is the second crossover which is being produced at both the production plants since December 2016. As for the specifications, the upcoming Mazda CX-5 will be equipped with a 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G-unit which delivers 155 PS maximum power and 196 Nm peak torque. The engine will be further mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The average fuel economy is expected to rest around 16 kmpl.

Another option is the 2.5-litre mill which delivers 184 PS maximum power and 245 Nm peak torque. A diesel variant with 2.2-litre SkyActiv engine is also on offer which offers 175 PS maximum power and 420 Nm peak torque. The equipment list includes LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, 17-inch alloy wheels, 7-inch infotainment system, Sport driving mode, and two-zone climate control.

The safety list includes Advanced Smart City Brake Support, i-ActivSense safety suite, Advanced SCBS and laser sensor mounted on the windshield which detects an imminent collision. The sensor prepares the braking system for maximum stopping power. In case, if the driver does not respond, the advanced SCBS applies the brakes and reduces engine output, which results in the severity of impact.
