Mazda PH adds CX-5 AWD Turbo to compact SUV model range

MANILA: Mazda Philippines has dropped a turbocharged 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G engine under the hood of 2022 Mazda CX-5 model range.

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 All-Wheel Drive Turbo highlights improved power and dynamic performance with the 253ps and 434Nm from its turbocharged engine. It also features a wide range of new exterior and interior design elements for a more refined driving experience, as well as enhanced comfort and convenience.

“Ever since its introduction in the Mazda CX-9, the Skyactiv-G 2.5T engine has been the centerpiece of Mazda engineering,” shared Mazda Philippines President and CEO Steven Tan.

“This engine represents the pinnacle of power and efficiency for Skyactiv engine technology as it provides smooth, effortless acceleration while being mindful of fuel consumption," he added. 

As a Wards 10 Best Engines awardee, the Skyactiv-G 2.5T outlines efficiency and everyday smooth control and power delivery to make driving more enjoyable without the penalty of massive fuel consumption and engine weight. Combined with the proven Skyactiv-Drive six-speed automatic, the engine uplifts the new CX-5’s driving experience to even greater heights.

The engine is paired to Mazda's i-Activ All-Wheel Drive system that enhances safety and drivability. The system provides valuable grip on all four wheels as needed over a variety of surfaces without the penalty of increased fuel consumption as found in mechanical AWD systems. 

Exterior-wise, an evolution of Kodo design in the 2022 CX-5 AWD Turbo's front and rear bumpers showcases the “less is more” Japanese aesthetic. By simplifying bumper design elements to resemble a sculpted form, the new CX-5 lines itself handsomely with the award-winning finish of the Mazda 3 and the Mazda CX-30.

To complement the new fascia, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 AWD Turbo also introduces a new headlamp and taillamp design. Thinner, more purposeful and sleek, the new headlamp houses LED technology for maximum vision at night. Together with the effective Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS) with Auto Leveling and High Beam Control, safer journeys at night or in low-light situations will be realized. To reinforce its new signature look, the new CX-5’s quad LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) and LED tail light design all come together to project a wider and sportier stance on the road.

In order to create a one-piece look, the new CX-5’s claddings have all been painted the same shade as the body. With the introduction of new colors such as Zircon Sand Metallic and Polymetal Gray to the already extensive color palette of the Mazda CX-5 range, customers will be able to choose a hue that best represents their varied personalities. 

The 2022 CX-5 will showcase a revised seat design that further elevates the quality and standard of driving pleasure.

Using data from human-centric development studies done on the Mazda3 and the Mazda CX-30, the new seats of the 2022 Mazda CX-5 AWD Turbo conform to the body’s form and encourages the spine to preserve an S-shaped curve. The result is less body movement, making it easier for drivers to maintain a stable line of sight and for passengers to sit in relaxed comfort all throughout the drive.

Advances in Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture have also come to play in the improved refinement of the 2022 Mazda CX-5 AWD Turbo. A reinforced body frame using damping adhesives lessens the intrusion of sound and vibrations. 

Complementing all these developments is the more distinctive cabin quietness achieved through reduced noise intrusion and resonance control. 

Inside the 2022 Mazda CX-5 AWD Turbo, Deep Red Nappa Leather seats excite the occupants. To achieve a truly engaging drive, paddle shifters are now also standard. The windshield projected Active Driving Display, an innovation implemented by Mazda in the CX-5 back in 2017, continues to provide essential driving data to the driver.

The new CX-5 continues with established features that set it apart from other crossovers. The 10-speaker Bose Premium Sound System plays every drive’s soundtrack with high fidelity, while a sunroof brightens up the cabin and allows fresh air to permeate in the CX-5’s living space.

For 2022, the new CX-5 will now feature an extensive suite of i-Activsense safety technologies designed to make drivers more aware of their immediate surroundings. 

Alongside the CX-5 AWD Turbo, Mazda Philippines will continue to offer the CX-5 AWD Sport (P1.99 million) and CX-5 FWD Sport (P1.89 million).
