Mazda PH sweeps wins at 2025 Petron Makabayan Cup

MANILA: Mazda Philippines bagged victories in all the legs of the last year’s Petron Makabayan Cup.

The milestone was reached after seven years of participating in the endurance circuit race’s three legs namely the four-hour Kagitingan Cup, 12-hour Kalayaan Cup, and the eight-hour Bonifacio Cup.

In a statement, the Bermaz Auto-steered automotive distributor shared that its consistent and competitive participation in the series serves as a testament to its “never stop challenging spirit”— the same ethos that defines the brand and its motorsports activities worldwide.

To recall, Team Mazda Miata competed in a single, one-off race back in 2017.

Its formal entry in 2019 marked the evolution of the MX-5’s racing concept that led to improving performances year after year.

In 2022, Team MSCC Mazda Miata brought out the #55 car covered in “Imagine” livery, which gave way to a dramatic full carbon-fiber body transformation two years later. Last year, the vehicle was slapped with a quick-shifting sequential gearbox.

Over the year, the Mazda MX-5 kept its bone-stock 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine that delivers the following numbers:

Maximum output (in horsepower)	181
Peak torque (in Newton-meters)	205

• Aside from that, the car also comes with Ultra-lightweight carbon fiber body kit
• Brembo front brakes
• Cusco coilovers and suspension parts
• HGT six-speed sequential gearbox
• New rear-end differential
• Performance tires

Further, the #55 Team MSCC Mazda Miata also set new lap records across the three legs — including a 2:06.6 lap at the 4.189-kilometer Clark International Speedway.

“The 2025 MSCC Miata Endurance Race Series marks a historic milestone for Mazda Philippines,” Mazda Philippines President Steven Tan was quoted as saying.

 “Our success this year isn’t just about winning a season. It is a culmination of seven years of commitment, refinement, and belief in the MX-5 platform,” he added.

Mazda Philippines’ Team MSCC Miata has a support team headed by Edgen Dy-Liacco. Navigating the tracks are its racers led by Angie King, Windy Imperial, Tyson Sy, Juha Turalba, Matt Solomon and Medarlo Rivera.
