How 2016 Porsche 911 is different from its Predecessor?
MANILA: Porsche Philippines recently launched their 2016 Porsche 911 here in two variants, namely Carrera S and Carrera 4S. This comes after the car was revealed for the first time at 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. The starting price for Carrera S is quoted at PhP 12,500,000. Apart from its increased price, the German automaker has also tweaked its interior, exterior and powertrain. This car looks all ready to set the sports segment on fire in the Philippines. Let's have a look on how it’s different from its predecessor.
1.The old 3.8-litre 6-cylinder naturally aspirated engine is replaced with a downsized turbocharged 3.0-litre 6-cylinder engine. This engine is more efficient and churns out more power as compared to the previous one. For both Carrera S and Carrera 4S, the power and torque figures have got an increase of 20 PS and 60 Nm respectively. Now this new turbocharged engine churns out a maximum power of 420 PS along with a peak torque of 500 Nm.
2.The transmission choices includes 7-speed manual transmission and a dual-clutch transmission along with an all-wheel drive system for Carrera 4S. With manual transmission, the 911 can complete a century sprint in 4.5 seconds, while with dual-clutch transmission it takes just 4.3 seconds. For better handling, the automaker has blessed it with Porsche Active Suspension Management and Active Torque vectoring.
3.Moving towards the exterior, it gets new headlamps with four-point daytime running lights. Moreover, the front fascia has now got a new bumper with larger air intakes. For the all-wheel drive version, the rear wheel arches have been flared up by 44 mm. Further, one can also notice its aerodynamically designed wing mirrors and reworked door handles. At the rear end it gets tweaked taillights, cooling vents and redesigned rear bumper. Getting the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) chassis, the height for both S and 4S is reduced by 10mm.
4.Talking about the interior of 2016 Porsche 911, a few changes can be noticed. The new steering wheel fitted in this car resembles to that of 918 Spyder along with a new rotary knob. The multimedia system has also been simplified and is a little bit better than its predecessor. The centre console features a 7-inch screen with multi-touch gestures, voice control and navigation system as well. Moreover, it has also got Wi-Fi and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
