Per Hyundai, the IIHS 2026 TSP+ rating has to do with these vehicles’ comprehensive SmartSense advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS). The said collection of ADAS features consists of forward collision assist with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, driver attention warning, lane keeping assist, rear occupant alert, and high beam assist.
Notably, the brand states that the IIHS awards for these models apply only to models sold in the United States. Regardless, many of the models mentioned above (except the Sonata) are also sold locally and come with Hyundai’s SmartSense ADAS suite.
For Kia, its 2026 TSP+ awardees lineup includes the EV9, K4, Sorento, and Sportage. Notably, only the K4 and the next-generation Sportage are not available locally.
Similar to the Hyundai lineup, Kia’s list of TSP+ recipient vehicles also have an ADAS suite, which notably come packaged with forward collision warning and lane keep assist.
On this note, the said awards may make these cars more reassuring to would-be adopters, even for the local market.
As mentioned, Hyundai’s luxury arm, Genesis, has also attained five IIHS accolades for 2026. The aforementioned includes the GV70, all-electric GV70, GV70, G80, and GV80. For the unaware, the Genesis brand has not officially been sold in the Philippine market.
“Hyundai Motor Group is an industry leader in the 2026 IIHS Top Safety Pick program, with 16 awards across the Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia brands,” President and Global Chief Safety and Quality Officer at Hyundai Motor Group Brian Latouf said.
“This tremendous accomplishment reflects our continued focus on developing and producing safe vehicles. These results demonstrate the dedicated safety focus of our engineering teams and our commitment to achieving top safety performance across our portfolio,” Latouf added.
