Is Mitsubishi Pajero making a comeback this year?

MANILA: Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) has just teased a vehicle that seems like the much-anticipated returning Pajero.

Such an assumption followed the Japanese automaker’s latest corporate video — posted over Mitsubishi Motors TV YouTube channel — that showed a huge sport utility vehicle at the end of the clip.

As seen in the video, the teased model features a boxy body with front illuminations that looked similar to the Elevance Concept formally revealed at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 (meaning it resembles the Mitsubishi Destinator and Xforce’s front fascia). 

Upon having a closer look at it (with a little enhancement on the lighting), the yet-to-be-confirmed vehicle features a squared front (reminiscent of the Triton) and a taller stance.

At the time of posting, the brand has yet to confirm the speculations about the aforementioned video. 

Should this vehicle be the production design of the Elevance Concept, then the expected off-roader vehicle might be powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain consisting of a high-efficiency gasoline engine alongside a large-capacity battery.

However, there are also reports overseas claiming that the Mitsubishi Pajero is set to make its comeback this 2026.

To recall, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation quietly dropped the Pajero Sport sometime in 2021 — technically replaced by the Montero Sport (which was in the country since the late 2000’s).

With that, here’s what customers are having with the said nameplate that has been around for quite a while already.

Under the vehicle’s hood is a 2.4-liter turbocharged direct-inject diesel engine that is mated to a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. This produces:
