Is the GR Yaris ready to join the Toyota Gazoo Racing PH Cup?

MANILA: Are we going to see the GR Yaris in the Toyota Gazoo Racing (GR) Philippine Cup?

The hot hatch—seen at the final round of the Toyota GR Philippines Esports GT Championship 2026—had race-ready portions, which led to such a speculation. Further, the model was seen alongside a Tamaraw OMR unit, a stock GR 86, and a lightly-modified GR Corolla.

Given the chances are slim for Toyota Motor Philippines to include it in the motorsport series that it organized, Zigwheels Philippines still looks forward for the model to be present in the tracks since the model has a WRC version that Morizo (professionally known as Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda) conducted an exhibition with during his trip in the country back in 2023.

Vehicle specifications

The most evident part is the distinct GR livery similar to the OMR versions of the Vios and Tamaraw—sporting the rich mix of red, white, and black tones to express its sporty and aggressive nature—and skirts that carry the “GR Toyota Gazoo Racing” typography.

Complementing this are the red mudflaps at the front wheel wells, bronze wheels shod in 17-inch GT Radial Champiro SX2 tires. Upfront, the car wears a pair of PIAA fog lamps.

Inside, the displayed Toyota GR Yaris comes with a carbon rear strut bar, Bride racing bucket seats, and a Wilians six-point harnesses at the driver side. To reduce the car’s overall weight (and maximize the engine’s performance), the rear bench has been removed.

Apart from the aforementioned parts, other portions have been retained.

Under the hood is the same in-line three cylinder, four valve, double overhead cam, 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline mill (G16E-GTS) with a four-wheel-drive system (GR Four) mated to a six-speed manual transmission that can deliver:

It has Sport, Normal, Eco, Gravel and Track drive modes, while its braking system is made up of ventilated discs on all four wheels.

Sitting in the middle of the dash is the familiar seven-inch floating-type infotainment system, a 12.3-inch screen gauge cluster.

While Zigwheels Philippines looks forward to see the race car experiencing some wheel-to-wheel action, having one-make-race units will surely burn huge sums of money as a factory-spec Toyota GR Yaris already costs P3.391 million.
