Jaecoo J7 SHS up for test drives at 2025 AFSTDF

MANILA:  Omoda and Jaecoo Motor Philippines is showcasing its super hybrid system (SHS) technology at this year’s Auto Focus Summer Test Drive Festival (AFSTDF).

The Chery-backed automaker’s local arm shared that following its preview at Manila International Auto Show 2025 last April, the vehicle is now available for test drives. Those interested to check out the vehicle may visit the brand’s booth up to today at the Mall of Asia Concert Grounds.

Here are some details about the vehicle’s powertrain.

Vehicle specifications

Fitted in the Jaecoo J7 SHS is a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine (1.5T GDI turbo-charged direct-inject) and electric motor.

Mated to a single-speed dedicated hybrid transmission, the mill can deliver the following:

Maximum output (in horsepower)	340
Peak torque (in Newton-meters)	525

In a test conducted by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP), the vehicle was able to cover almost 1,500 kilometers. Omoda and Jaecoo Philippines attributed this to the following technologies:

• Deep Miller Cycle
• Intelligent High Efficiency Combustion (i-HEC)
• Regenerative braking
• Optimized power distribution

Further, the vehicle has an 18.3 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery that has a comprehensive battery protection system--making it waterproof and heat and impact-resistant. Additionally, the power bank can (which can be juiced up from 30-80 percent in 20 minutes) also boasts an ultra-high electrical safety control, particularly the 2-millisecond power cutoff function that can also prevent thermal runaway.

Recently, the Jaecoo J7 SHS received a five-star rating from the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP).

“With the first batch of JAECOO J7 SHS set to arrive in the Philippines soon, we want to give Filipinos a glimpse into our industry-leading Super Hybrid System with this test drive opportunity,” Omoda and Jaecoo Philippines said in a statement.

“Our Super Hybrid System is a byproduct of our automotive engineering DNA. This powertrain underwent rigorous testing and development to achieve its long-range, high-performance, and high-safety capabilities.

The vehicle, to be available in Premium and Comfort variants; will be both priced under P1.7 million.

Other vehicle test drive options

Aside from the Jaecoo J7 SHS, the Omoda C5, Omoda E5, and Jaecoo EJ6 will also be available for test drives. Interested test drivers may register at the venue.
