Mazda introduces cylinder deactivation and more in 2020 CX-5

MANILA: Mazda has revised and revitalized the CX-5 badge with a host of features increasing efficiency, comfort, and performance.

The highlight of these updates is the new cylinder deactivation system in the manual gearbox trim of SkyActiv-G 165hp trim. When activated, there’s a marked decrease in emissions by 8g/km of CO².

New to the suspension setup is a thicker front-anti roll bar, smaller rear anti-roll bar, and revised front stabilizer bushings combined with new urethane material in the rear damper top mounts and amended damping valve structures to deliver the improvements.

There will be improvements in performance with the introduction of Mazda’s G-Vectoring Control system – GVC Plus, which now features direct yaw control to enhance stability at speed.

The petrol engine is matched to a front-wheel drive system with either a choice of manual or automatic transmission. The 2.2-liter SkyActiv-D will have two engine outputs, a 150hp paired to a front-wheel drive platform and 184hp model using an all-wheel drive system. Both have the option of either a manual or automatic transmission.

A seven-inch color TFT display is included in the top trim along with adaptive LED Headlights, driver attention alert, rear smart city brake support and 360° view monitor, and 19-inch bright alloy wheels.

Along with the host of new upgrades is a new color that will be available across all models, Polymetal Grey Metallic.

“The CX-5 showcases how Mazda can make an SUV that’s stylish, great to drive and capable of luring customers from premium badged rivals. The CX-5 is a sophisticated (and) practical... (delivering) an outstanding balance of ride and handling,” said Mazda Motors UK managing director Jeremy Thomson.
