MG Motor PH hails Zhang as new president, replaces Jiang

MANILA: Wei Wei Zhang is the new president of MG (Morris Garages) Motor Philippines, SAIC Motor Philippines Incorporated (SMPI) announced.

In a statement, the marque’s official local distributor shared that the new leader replaced Felix Jiang, who was SMPI's first-ever  president. The latter, the company noted, will be reassigned to MG Australia.

Prior to his latest role, Zhang served as the president of MG Indonesia. Later in his career, he became part of the ASEAN Partner Group at SAIC Motor’s Shanghai headquarters to oversee multiple Southeast Asian markets that led to the brand’s growth and strategic initiatives.

“His appointment is expected to build upon MG Philippines’ strong foundation and continue the brand’s momentum in the country’s competitive automotive landscape,” SMPI mentioned.

Meanwhile, the outgoing president played a crucial role in making MG a key player in the automotive market. During his three-year stint, Jiang helped the marque keep its position within the Top 10 leading brands under Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Incorporated-Truck Manufacturers Association.

Aside from that, Jiang also led the company in achieving record-breaking sales in 2024 and secured segment leadership in the 1.5-liter sedan category.

Further, the company now has an expanded portfolio made up of gasoline and diesel internal combustion engines, hybrids, and fully electric vehicles because of his leadership.

According to MG Philippines’ Jiang’s tenure saw “remarkable growth, innovative product launches, and a strengthened nationwide presence of the MG brand.”

 “We are deeply grateful to Mr. Jiang for his visionary leadership and significant contributions to MG Philippines’ success,” MG Philippines Vice President Karl Pietrus Anthony Magsuci said.

“At the same time, we are confident that Mr. Zhang’s experience, regional insight, and strategic vision will lead MG Philippines into its next phase of growth, further strengthening our commitment to delivering innovative, sustainable mobility solutions to our customers,” he added.
