Mini PH expands local lineup with new Cooper 5-Door

MANILA: Mini Philippines, under the management of the Autohub Group of Companies, has officially launched the latest iteration of the Cooper 5-Door hatchback. 

The revamped subcompact five-seater debuted alongside the all-new Aceman, and as of its launch, its sole S variant commands a price of P3.799 million. 

“Three’s a crowd, but five is definitely a party. Presenting the all-new Mini Cooper 5-Door - the beloved icon with a fresh twist. Now offering the practicality of five doors, it’s perfect for active lifestyles and even young families, all while maintaining its signature look,” Autohub Group of Companies President Willy Tee Ten said. 

“With the unmistakable fun-to-drive spirit that Mini is known for, we’re thrilled to embark on new adventures together with our passionate community,” Tee Ten added. 

Exterior

On the outside, the new 5-door version of the Mini Cooper carries a modernized take on the signature Mini proportions. It boasts short overhangs, the iconic round Mini headlamp design, and an octagonal front grille. 

From the side, one can see that it sports a long wheelbase relative to its overall size. For reference, the model is 4,036 millimeters (mm) long, 1,744 mm wide, and 1,464 mm in height. Its wheelbase, meanwhile, spans 2,567 mm, which is 72 mm longer compared to the Cooper 3-Door. 

From the rear, the 5-Door dons a pair of flush-fitting, vertically aligned LED taillights. The model also rides on a set of 18-inch wheels. 

Interior

Similar to the all-electric Aceman, the Cooper 5-Door is minimalist but also styling and cushy. The vehicle’s cabin likewise leverages plenty of recycled materials, which takes front and center the sustainability thrust of the British marque. 

Found on many surfaces of the hatchback, for example, is a two-tone fabric made out of recycled polyester. The aforementioned is combined with a curved dashboard, a two-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a set of horizontally aligned air-conditioning vents for the model’s automatic air-conditioning system. 

A circular 240 mm OLED display dominates the vehicle's dash. It doubles as the car’s instrument cluster, though a pop-up heads-up display is also positioned behind the steering wheel. 

The aforementioned screen makes use of the Mini Operating System 9, which takes charge of all in-vehicle functions. Otherwise, the “Rocker Strip,” which is located just below the central display, is equipped with physical buttons to manipulate the 5-Door’s electronic parking brake, Experience Mode, audio volume, and gear selector. 

Other notable features present inside the Mini Cooper 5-Door include, but are not limited to, the following: 

• Wireless smartphone charger
• Power adjustable front seats
• Mini Intelligent Personal Assistant
• 60:40 split-folding rear seat
• Start/stop button

With the rear seats up, the Cooper 5-Door’s trunk can fit up to 275 liters of cargo. Its space, however, can be expanded up to 925 liters with the rear seats folded down. 

Safety

For now, the brand has yet to share the complete list of safety features for the new Mini Cooper 5-Door, but it is expected to have a suite of advanced driver-assist systems and other passive safety equipment. 

Powertrain

While the Cooper 5-Door is already available locally, Mini Philippines has yet to disclose its full mechanical specifications. The global version of the S variant, however, utilizes a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which sends power to the front wheels.

At maximum, the said engine can generate up to 201 horsepower (hp) and 300 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque.
