New 2019 Mitsubishi Delica D:5 breaks covers
MANILA: It seems that the noticeable changes at Mitsubishi are bearing sweet fruits. Just when we thought that the Japanese marquee is going to die a slow death owing to the demise of its popular models, Mitsubishi surprised everyone with a slew of new launches.
Recently, Mitsubishi did come up with revamped versions of Eclipse Cross, Xpander, and Strada. To end the year on a good note, Mitsubishi took the wraps off from the all-new Delica D:5. The boxy looking people mover from Mitsubishi gets a number of cosmetic changes in and out to make it much more appealing than what it was before.
Starting from the outside, the Delica D:5 seems to get heavy inspiration from the new generation models of the Xpander and Strada. At the front, the grille at the center gets wider with sleeker upper design for it. The vertically designed headlamps at the center of the bumper and the sleek daytime running LEDs above them follow Mitsubishi’s latest design philosophy. However, changes are less diluted on the sides as well as the rear. The only noticeable difference seems to be mild revisions to the rear bumper and new lighting pattern for the tail lamps.
On the inside too, things have become a bit more dramatic and luxurious at the same time. One is welcomed by a new dashboard design, which has a sweeping design at the top and cascading design for the center console. New leather upholstery for seats and door inserts as well as armchair style seating at the front lift up the ambiance as well. The 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission is the only powertrain on offer for the Delica D:5.
The new Mitsubishi Delica D:5 has been unveiled in two different versions – Standard and Urban Gear. Talking about the Standard version first – it is equipped with a new seven-spoke design for alloy wheels, higher ground clearance and faux skid plates at the front and rear. This variant can seat seven and comes with dual tone upholstery and 60:40 split middle row. On the other hand, the six-seater Urban Gear has two captain seats in the middle row, all black upholstery, multi-spoke alloy wheels, a body kit all around and additional dosage of chrome.
