Next-gen Nissan Navara unveiled in Australia

MANILA: Nissan has unveiled the all-new Navara in Australia. It received loads of improvements, all of which, the brand says, were designed to meet the needs of the Australian and New Zealand markets. 

In the aforementioned regions, the model replaces the refreshed global D23 version that is currently sold in the Philippines and many other countries. On the one hand, it isn’t clear yet if the next-generation model launched in Oceania will ever reach the ASEAN region with similar specifications, but regardless, let’s check out what it is offering. 

Powertrain

Under the hood of the next-generation D27 Nissan Navara is a 2.4-liter turbodiesel inline-4 paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The aforementioned is clearly different from the 2.5-liter powertrain and seven-speed automatic that’s currently fitted on the Philippine-spec model. Interestingly, these are the same powertrain specs as the locally available Mitsubishi Triton Athlete. 

In addition, the all-new Nissan-made truck can produce up to 201 horsepower (hp) and 470 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque, which is markedly more powerful compared to the Philippine-spec model’s 187 hp and 450 Nm of torque (automatic trims).

As Nissan Australia claims, the said engine is capable of returning up to 13 kilometers per liter of mixed city and highway fuel economy. It also boasts a towing capacity of 3,500 kilograms, a Torsen limited-slip differential, the automatic ‘Easy 4WD’ system, and seven drive models (normal, eco, gravel, snow, mud, sand, and rock). 

Per the brand, the Easy 4WD can seamlessly switch between 4x4 and 4x2 modes on its own. The aforementioned works with the pickup truck’s “advanced traction control,” which is said to continuously monitor wheel slip and terrain conditions in order to deliver optimal power. 

The next-gen model also boasts a new suspension system produced and tuned by Australia-based Premcar.

Exterior

Style-wise, the next-generation model for Australia and New Zealand sports a new “V-strut” grille, paired with C-shaped headlamp clusters, red accent parts, a black-colored sports car, and a set of 17-inch wheels. 

As the Aussie arm of the Japanese marque shared, the design was meant to be rugged, while providing a nod to older utes like the D21 Navara. 

An exhaustive exterior features list was not revealed, but pictures of the truck imply that it may come with the following: 

• Roof rails
• Bed liner
• LED lighting fixtures

Interior, safety

The interior of the model features a five-seater layout with leather-upholstered seats. It is likewise fitted with a nine-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a digital radio system. The said central display is paired with a seven-inch color TFT gauge cluster.

Higher-spec trims of the next-gen pickup truck come with a wireless smartphone charging pad and access to the MyNissan Connected Car Services. The aforementioned app can handle remote air-conditioning control, emergency calls, remote door locking/unlocking, and stolen vehicle tracking. 

As standard, the model was equipped with a total of eight airbags. It also has a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assist systems, which include: 

• Emergency lane assist
• Traffic sign recognition
• Pedal misapplication system
• Lane departure warning
• Blind spot warning 
• Lane change assist
• Front and rear cross traffic alert
• High beam assist
• Intelligent speed limiter
• Driving monitoring
• Adaptive cruise control

Availability

According to Nissan, the next-gen Navara is due to arrive in Australian and New Zealand dealerships in the first quarter of 2026. 

For now, the brand has yet to say if this is a global model, but as mentioned, it seems to be an Oceania-specific nameplate. And yes, if there was going to be a next-gen Nissan Navara for the market, chances are it is going to be unveiled in Thailand first. 

So, for now, let’s wait for updates from Nissan Motor Philippines on the future fate of the locally popular Navara.
