Omoda, Jaecoo highlight Super Hybrid System

MANILA: Omoda and Jaecoo have highlighted the brands’ Super Hybrid System (SHS). 

After finally making their official entry into the Philippine automotive scene, the twin Chinese marques are now putting their powertrains into the spotlight. 

The said new-energy system can be found in the upcoming Jaecoo J7 SHS (previewed at MIAS 2025, showcased at Auto Focus Summer Test Drive Festival 2025), as well as the Omoda C7 SHS and C5 SHS (unveiled at Auto Shanghai 2025). 

Performance, safety 

Per Omoda and Jaecoo Philippines, its SHS powertrain uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with a claimed thermal efficiency of 44.5 percent. It is paired with a dedicated hybrid transmission, which supposedly achieves a 98.5 percent electric drive efficiency. 

The setup is helped by a high-performance hybrid battery that is said to enhance the system’s safety with a comprehensive battery protection system, thanks to the following: 

• Heat resistance 
• Impact resistance 
• Waterproofing 

Further, Omoda and Jaecoo’s SHS system is apparently fitted with an ultra-high electrical safety control program with a two-millisecond power cutoff function for post-collision scenarios, therefore preventing thermal runaway and providing real-time safety protection.

NCAP rating 

Relating to safety, the Jaecoo J7 SHS was awarded a five-star safety rating by the European New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) not too long ago. 

Per Omoda and Jaecoo, this milestone is a testament to their SHS technology. 

To note, the Omoda C5 also got five-star nods from the European, Australasian, and Southeast Asian NCAP. Likewise, the E5 also earned five-star ratings from the European and Australasian new car assessment institutions. 

Super hybrid marathon 

According to Omoda and Jaecoo, the Chery-owned companies have staged a super hybrid marathon in Mexico, Thailand, and Brazil, where the J7 SHS participated and achieved a combined range of 1,613.1 kilometers (km). 

On the other hand, the Omoda C7 SHS embarked on a 1,250 km marathon where it clocked in at 4.4 liters per 100 km with a combined range of 1,457 km and a full-electric range of 121.1 km.

“Today, Omoda and Jaecoo are redefining new energy safety standards with their SHS Super Hybrid Technology, becoming a trusted companion for global users exploring the world,” they added.
