Porsche recalls Panamera over issues with electric power steering

MANILA: German car manufacturer, Porsche has recalled the Panamera models manufactured in a specific time frame over a faulty electric power steering issue. The affected models need to be taken to an authorised service centre where the circuit would be reprogrammed

The recall is effective for the models that were manufactured between 21st March 2016 and 6th December 2018. Globally, the recall accounts for 74,585 units, which also includes the ones sold in the Philippines market.

As per the report, a software error has caused the fault due to which the electric power steering can be affected occasionally. It might disrupt the power steering for a temporary period, resulting in higher force required to be applied by the driver to steer the vehicle. This increases the risk of accidents.

The authorised company service centres will re-program and update the associated control unit to avert the problem. It will take just an hour or so for the company’s technicians to do the repair and it will be done free of cost.

Porsche has already started contacting the customers in written mode, asking them to schedule an appointment with an authorised dealer as soon as possible. The fix will entirely be done on a software basis to eliminate the issue.

As of now, there are no reports of accidents or personal injuries from the software issue with the electric power steering. In an earlier recall in June 2018 that was regarding a problem with rear-axle anti-roll bar, Porsche had stopped the production of the Panameras to maintain the high-quality standard.

Keeping the safety of the passengers in mind is one of the top priorities for Porsche. And for the units that are yet unsold at the dealerships, the company will fix the issue before selling them off to the buyers.
