The next-gen Toyota Corolla should be in the Philippine soon

MANILA: It has already been some time now since the new Toyota Corolla has been roaring on the roads around the globe. However, the Philippines is still to have its fair share of the icon in its newest avatar. The Japanese automaker brought out the different models of the newest iteration of the icon slowly and steadily, starting off with the hatch followed by the wagon and the sedan. So, how long do we still need to wait before Toyota Philippines finally starts offering the Filipinos the all-new Corolla? Especially the sedan.

In the Americas and Japanese markets, Toyota offers the Sport edition of the new Corolla, while Europe gets the Prestige model. As the titles suggest, the Sport model packs in a sporty and muscular appearance with the Prestige edition more of a sophisticated sedan. With that said, which one of the two will the Filipinos receive? In Taiwan, Toyota offers the Prestige edition, which might just be an indication of what Toyota Philippines will be offering in the near future.

However, Australia gets the Sport trim, which makes the guess a difficult one. Let’s talk about the mechanicals now. The European-spec Toyota Corolla houses a 1.6-litre engine with Valvematic producing 132 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 159 Nm. The 1.6-litre mill without Valvematic makes 122 PS and 154 Nm. On the other hand, the Australian Corolla gets its juices from a 2.0-litre motor that churns out a maximum power 170 PS and 200 Nm of peak torque. While a CVT is surely coming on the sedan, the availability of a manual gearbox remains a mystery.
