There won't be any Mazda3 hatchback for the Philippines

MANILA: The all-new Mazda3 will be, at last, in the Philippines soon enough. Before the official launch, the Japanese automaker has opened a microsite for the customers who would like to register their interest. Not only the Filipinos can book a test-drive of the updated Mazda3 via the site but also reserve a unit for themselves.

While the automaker has not revealed much information about the Philippine-spec Mazda3, the microsite, on the other hand, has a lot to say. Having a look at Mazda’s updated portfolio, we find two kinds of Mazda3 listed on the website. The Mazda3 Sedan is there just as we expected, however, there is no hatchback to be seen. Instead, we get to see a brand new entity called Mazda3 Sportback.

So, the all-new Mazda3 will be offered in the Philippines in two form factors namely Sportback and Sedan. We are already familiar with the Mazda3 Sedan, right? It is the Mazda3 Sportback that has caught our attention this time around. Over the years, various automakers have been using the title “Sportback” for their wagons. The reason? Well, the word “Wagon” sounds a bit too old-school and does not create exciting vibes. Moreover, calling it a hatchback will create an image of a compact-ish five-door car in mind.

The new title should also make the Mazda3 Sportback feature a much more exciting and stylish rear end. Also, the premium title might bring along with it a much higher price tag than the previous generation Mazda3 hatchback.

Things ahead look pretty appealing for us automobile fanatics. Still, the least we can do is to simply wait until Mazda finally pulls the wraps off both the all-new Mazda3 Sportback and Sedan models.
