Toyota PH Motor issues recall for Raize due to improper ECU programming

MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has issued a recall for the Raize. In total, 28,828 examples of the subcompact crossover are affected. The recall covers units built from December 1, 2024, to July 15, 2024. 

Per the official announcement rolled out by the Japanese marque’s local arm, the recall has to do with faulty programming of the Raize’s engine electronic control unit (ECU). The faulty programming could cause improper suction pressure from the brake booster when running in high-altitude areas. 

According to Toyota, one clear symptom of the issue is the brake pedal becoming harder to press, thus leading to the loss of braking power. 

To address the issue, TMP has shared that it will be sending letters to the customers involved. The official notification letter for the safety-related recall will invite affected clients to perform the “necessary reprogramming of the engine ECU.” 

Additionally, current Raize owners can check if the recall covers their vehicle through this website.

Raize owners who are involved are highly encouraged to visit or set an appointment with any authorized Toyota dealership immediately. 

Toyota stressed that the remedy for the ECU problem is free of charge. 

The last major safety-related recall issued by TMP involved the premature breakage of the sports bar installed on the Toyota Hilux GR-S.

To note, the company previously issued a recall order for the following vehicles due to incorrectly tightened front shock absorber nuts:

• Avanza 
• Veloz
• Yaris Cross
