Zigwheels PH weekly wrap: December 22-26, 2025

MANILA: Even as Filipinos go into the festive holiday mood, the fourth week of December 2025 still saw significant movements in the local automotive industry. 

So, for those who missed the news, here is a wrap-up of the latest industry developments from December 22-26, as reported by Zigwheels Philippines. 

Local industry updates

While the industry has not seen a car launch in the fourth week of December, several noteworthy updates have emerged from a number of car brands, as well as transport-related government and private entities. 

For starters, the Suzuki Dzire and Fronx received their official fuel-economy numbers from the Department of Energy (DOE). The said fuel economy run, which was done together with Petron, netted the Dzire hybrid with a reading of 36.10 kilometers per liter (km/l). The Suzuki Fronx, meanwhile, returned a reading of 24.69 km/l. 

At the same time, the Honda Civic and HR-V also showed off their fuel economy at the DOE-Petron Eco run, with 30.12 km/l and 28.08 km/l, respectively. 

Also in the fourth week of December 2025, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) officially handed over Tamaraw units to the City of Santa Rosa.  

Yamaha Motor Philippines likewise conducted the Yamaha Grand Prix, which has been absent from the local scene for quite some time. The said event was held at the Tarlac Circuit Hill. 

Within the same week, Hyundai Motor Philippines Incorporated (HMPH) officially added Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) to its roster of financing partners. The aforementioned partnership agreement for this was finalized back on December 16, 2025. The brand is also set to raffle off a brand-new Santa Fe for its latest promo. 

BJ Mercantile (BJM) Incorporated has also turned over the initial batch of Thaco buses to Cagasawa Travel and Tours. These will ply routes between Manila and the Bicol Region.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) also announced that it will suspend the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (number coding) from December 23-25, and from December 29-January 2, 2026. At the same time, highways under the San Miguel Corporation saw toll-free access on Christmas Eve and also on New Year’s Eve. 

Morris Garages (MG) Motor Philippines, under SAIC Motor Philippines Incorporated, announced that Wei Wei Zhang will be stepping up as its new president. On the other hand, former MG Motor PH president Felix Jiang is set to helm MG Australia.  

As the year comes to a close, Tesla Philippines has set additional milestones, which include being the top electric vehicle brand among members of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Incorporated (CAMPI). The Tesla Model 3 and Model Y also showed impressive economy figures during the DOE-Petro Eco Run. 

Maxim Rides and Food Delivery has also started operating as Batangas City’s first-ever motorcycle ride-hailing service. 

United Asia Automotive Group Incorporated (UAAGI)-led Chery might also bring in the Tiggo 7 Pro PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) and iCAUR V23 to the local market.

In the fourth week of the month, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) also announced that it has granted a limited waiver for driver's licenses with violations made from September 1-December 31, 2025.

Global industry updates

In the global scene, the China Changan Automobile Group reported that it reached the 30-millionth vehicle production milestone. It is also eyeing to become one of the world’s top 10 automotive brands. 

The Aston Martin Valhalla also made its maiden appearance in the popular video game Fortnite’s Winterfest event. It also made its return to Rocket League via the game’s Frosty Fest event. 

Dealership openings

In the fourth week of December 2025, Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) reopened its dealership in Zamboanga City. The said facility is managed by IZU South Motors Corporation and is now compliant with Isuzu Outlet Standards. 

In the same week, Suzuki Philippines Incorporated conducted the soft opening of its new outlet in Hermosa City, Bataan. Called Suzuki Auto Bataan, it is managed by Greensun Automotive Enterprises, and it is a 3S (sales, service, spare parts) facility.
