An electric decade: The Nissan Leaf turns 10

MANILA: Nissan had a double celebration for the Nissan Leaf last Thursday, December 3.

The day marked electric vehicle's 10th anniversary. Nissan also boasted that 500,000 units of the model have been delivered since its first release in 2010.

Nissan President and CEO Makoto Uchida expressed his gratitude to the customers who have patronized the innovative product. According to him, "By switching to electric mobility, customers around the world have brought us all closer to a more sustainable and resilient society." Uchiko added that the car manufacturing company is working on expanding its electric vehicle production.

The Nissan Leaf is a fully electric automobile that was created with the main goal of sustainable development. It was reported that its worldwide users had driven their units at an estimated total of 16 billion kilometers which helped to prevent the emission of about 2.5 billion kilograms of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere. Aside from being a zero-emission vehicle, the Leaf has proved its societal significance by distributing emergency electricity to residential and business establishments in times of natural calamities.

The modernized technological features tickle the customers' interest on the electric car. In July 2020, the Ariya, another fully-electric crossover, was released with the advanced Nissan Intelligence Mobility feature.

Nissan has plotted its NEXT transformation plan which aims to produce more groundbreaking electric vehicles and targets to sell one million electric units every year by 2023.
