MANILA: The latest iteration of the Nissan Leaf, which is set to be sold in select markets this coming 2026, has won the 2025 Wards 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems award.

Nissan will start selling the third-generation Leaf in 2026.The third-generation version of the Nissan-made electric vehicle was lauded by Wards for its three-in-one electric powertrain, specifically for its lightweight and efficient design, which integrates an electric motor, inverter, and reducer into a single unit.
Per the awarding body, the said design not just improves vehicle packaging, but also energy efficiency and driving dynamics. The aforementioned, of course, is able to provide an “exhilarating driving experience” for the next-gen Leaf’s would-be adopters.
For reference, the all-new Nissan Leaf’s powertrain is capable of outputting 214 horsepower (hp) and 355 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. It also boasts a range of 487 kilometers and a 150-kilowatt fast-charging feature.
Photo from NissanTo put the said figures into perspective, the previous Nissan Leaf could produce a more modest 148 hp and 320 Nm of torque. It also had a shorter range of 311 km, according to the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC).

Notably, the version of the third-gen Nissan Leaf that’s set to be sold in the United States comes with the following features:
- 75-kWh lithium-ion battery
- Liquid battery cooling with thermal management
- J1772 and North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging ports
