Nissan PH conducting probe on 'smoking' Leaf issue

MANILA: A video of a smoking Nissan Leaf has been circulating on social media recently. 

In response to the aforementioned incident caught on cam, Nissan Philippines has already said that it is investigating the issue. 

For the unaware, the said video, which was initially shared on Facebook, showed a Leaf engulfed in thick smoke while parked at the EV charging station in front a Nissan dealership. Allegedly, the vehicle was being juiced up.

In a statement, the Japanese marque’s local arm confirmed that it is aware of the incident. The company likewise noted that this is the first time this has happened to the aforementioned all-electric nameplate. See the official Nissan Philippines statement below: 

Nissan Philippines has shared no further information regarding the incident that was caught on video, but has assured that it will provide more updates as its investigation progresses. 

PH-spec Nissan Leaf

In the Philippine market, the Nissan Leaf currently retails at P1.998 million. 

Propelling the Philippine-spec Leaf is an AC Synchronous motor capable of producing up to 147 horsepower (hp) and 320 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. The said motor is paired with a 40-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery, which likewise provides the Nissan EV with a cruising range of 311 kilometers, according to the New European Driving Cycle.

According to Nissan, the Leaf comes with a “fast charging port” with a capacity of up to 50 kilowatts. It also comes with an Economy mode and a regenerative braking system.
