Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid showcases capability, efficiency on 10,500-mile trip

MANILA: Nine Bentley Flying Spur Hybrids completed 10,500 miles in six days, including 3,000 miles on electric power. Among the findings: Each unit saved three gallons of fuel each day when compared to a Flying Spur V8.

Around 100 media guests and automotive experts from across the world got the opportunity to ride the new Flying Spur Hybrid in California, USA. The data accumulated from the cars’ built-in statistics revealed that 30% of their usage was with the engine off.

The Flying Spur Hybrid’s Intelligent Navigation System determined the best possible use of battery energy for maximum efficiency over a varied route of 50% highway, 44% country roads, and 6% urban driving, cleverly retaining charge for when it would be needed most — in urban areas, slower roads, and traffic.

The Flying Spur Hybrid’s powertrain is comprised of a 2.9-liter V6 petrol engine and an advanced electric motor, generating a total of 536bhp and 750Nm of torque.

The advanced electric motor is placed between the transmission and the engine. The permanent magnet synchronous motor generates full torque instantly for silent acceleration from a standstill.

The e-motor is powered by a lithium ion battery with a capacity of 18.9kWh that can be fully charged in as little as two and a half hours. The power electronics use the energy stored in the high-voltage battery to power the e-motor or complement the 12V vehicle electrical system.

The Flying Spur Hybrid features a luxurious cabin that blends key elements of Bentley DNA with state-of-the-art technology and the premier automotive craftsmanship in the world. It is designed with sculpted surfaces and contemporary lines that will amaze and delight occupants.

The refinement and craftsmanship go beyond the surface. In EV mode, the Flying Spur Hybrid provides occupants with up to 50% lower cabin noise versus a combustion engine, allowing them to enjoy a sense of isolation and comfort while watching the world go by.
