Electric Kia Seltos is coming to Asian markets

Following the success of e-Niro and Soul EV, the Korean automaker Kia is planning to come up with the all-electric version of the newly launched Seltos. Slots between Kia Soul and Kia Sportage in the firm’s lineup, Kia Seltos is expected to share the electric powertrain with Hyundai Kona EV. The model will be exclusively for the Asian markets, according to the KEEA.

Currently, Hyundai Kona electric comes with two different battery packs - 39.2 kWh and 64 kWh lithium-ion battery. The first variant produces 136 PS of power and 395 Nm of torque and delivers a driving range of 312 km on a single charge.

Whereas the bigger 64 kWh produces 204 PS of power with the same torque numbers and claims the driving range of 482 km. For Seltos, the bigger 64kWh battery pack is expected with a driving range of around 400 km as the SUV has larger dimensions and higher curb weight.

The electric version of Seltos has been internally codenamed as SP2 EV, and its production is expected to begin in the firm’s home country in the coming August. The firm intends to manufacture 10,000 units; initially,

the number is going to be increased as per the demand. Speaking of the styling changes in eSUV, it will have the same aesthetic design and might get some minor cosmetic tweaks for creating a difference between standard and EV model.

As reported, the carmaker does not aim to launch the Seltos EV outside Asia for now. Instead, it is expected to be seen on South Korean roads first, followed by India. It can also be launched in China, where the demand for zero-emission cars is surging. If we talk about the availability of electric Kia Seltos in the Philippines, nothing has been known for now.
