Ford recalls 500,000 units of Explorer, Expedition, and others

MANILA: One feels quite safe while driving a Ford, right? However, what if we told you that along with the SRS airbags, the seats inside your Ford Explorer, Expedition, F-150, and F-Series Super Duty might also come out in a crash? Sounds dangerous already, doesn't it? A Ford car is no fighter plane that comes with self ejecting seats.

Hence, the seats inside the above-mentioned should stay firm in their place and provide the occupants with both comfort and protection. But things don't always pan out as the automaker want them to, and once again a defect has forced Ford to recall around 500,000 units of the Explorer, Expedition, F-150, and F-Series Super Duty.

Part of the recall are the following Ford car models - 2018-2019 Explorer, 2019-2020 Expedition, 2018-2020 F-150, and 2019-2020 F-Series Super Duty. It is the “lack of seat restraints in the event of a crash” that has spurred the big recall.

Moreover, only the variants that come equipped with a manual driver and front passenger seatback recliner mechanism are affected by the recall. Also, 2020 models of the Explorer and Lincoln Aviator that get rear outboard seats with manual reclining are a part of the recall.

Ford has said that the affected models may not "adequately restrain an occupant in a crash, increasing the risk of injury". This reduces the seatback strength, and the consequences could be fatal. Ford has asked the affected customers to bring their vehicles to the service centre for an inspection. While most of the vehicles are expected to pass the inspection test, Ford will replace the seats for free on the units that do not go through the examination.

Fortunately enough, no customers in the Philippines are affected by the recall as all the models offered in the country comes equipped with powered seats instead of the manual ones. The American automobile manufacturer has also confirmed that there have been no accidents or injuries due to the faulty component.
