The third-generation Nissan Leaf will be manufactured at the Tochigi Plant in Japan and in Sunderland, northeast England. In a statement, the Japanese automaker said that the electric vehicle’s (EV) latest version was the result of the “more than 15 years of real-world insights gained through global sales of nearly 700,000 units.”
Nissan Motor Company noted that the all-new Leaf offers an increased range, improved charging speed, and loaded with a technology suite that makes daily driving easier and enriches owners’ lifestyles — making it a “compelling alternative for internal combustion engine (ICE) buyers.”

“The Nissan Leaf reflects our commitment to innovation and sustainability. The original Leaf helped popularize electric vehicles, and this third generation invites consumers to embrace an EV lifestyle with a range of compelling features. It plays an important role in our Re:Nissan action plan, offering impressive performance, stylish design, and advanced technology,” Nissan President and Chief Executive Officer Ivan Espinosa was quoted as saying.

Exterior
Embodying the marque’s Timeless Japanese Futurism design, the all-new Nissan Leaf comes with the exterior and interior feature a distinctive “ni-san” geometric symbol, combining two vertical rectangles with three horizontal ones.
It comes with a fastback-like silhouette that complements features such as flush front door handles, aero-tuned wheels and a flat underbody that provides a 0.25-026 drag coefficient.
Up front, the vehicle is fitted with an updated V-motion fascia bordered by the daylight running lamps and a lightbar that spans the length of the hood (which, in some regions, is positioned above the brand logo).

Meanwhile, the all-new Nissan Leaf’s is outfitted with 3D holographic tail lamps and sits on 18 or 19-inch wheels with varying tire sizes (depending on where it will originate).
Interior
Customers can also expect a roomy cabin from the all-new Nissan Leaf as it comes with a flat flooring, thanks to its CMF-EV platform and the floating horizontal instrument panel.

The car will come in either dual 12.3- or 14.3-inch integrated screens (to vary depending on grade and region). Select trims will also have a Bose Personal Plus premium audio with speakers integrated into the front headrests.

Other creature comforts that the all-new Leaf include the Nissan-first Dimming Panoramic Roof (with heat shielding with embedded Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal technology) that lets owners enjoy natural lighting.
Powertrain
Powering the newest Nissan Leaf is the latest three-in-one EV powertrain that is 10-percent smaller compared to the previous version.
Depending on the variant, the electric motor (which comes with an inverter and reducer) can dish out the following churns:
Maximum output (in horsepower) |
174.3-214.5 |
Peak torque (in Newton-meters) |
345-355 |
Despite the differences in power, all variations of the third-generation Nissan Leaf can only reach a top speed of 160 kilometers per hour.

The aforementioned powertrain is mated to either a 52.9- or 75.1-kilowatt-hour liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery.
Technologies
Moreover, Nissan mentioned that for some markets, the all-new Nissan Leaf is equipped with an Intelligent Distance Control Assist that helps in maintaining a set distance from the vehicle in front while driving in city traffic and optimizes regenerative braking.

A comprehensive suite of advanced and innovative driver assist technologies can also be found in the all-new Nissan Leaf; among those are:
- 3D Intelligent Around View Monitor
- Invisible Hood View
- Front Wide View functionality
Varying functional features can also be found in the car depending on the region.
In the US, select grades of the model will come with a pair of 120-volt outlets (one inside the cabin and the other for the cargo area) that can discharge up to 1500-watts of combined power. It will also be offered with an V2L (vehicle-to-load) accessory adapter.
For the Japan market, the all-new Leaf will maintain its Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) functionality, which allows it to supply electricity back to a home or receive solar generated energy when connected to a home energy management system.

In Europe, the car is compatible with a Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology that can send electricity back to the power grid.
Nissan said that the all-new Leaf will be manufactured at the Tochigi Plant in Japan and in Sunderland, northeast England.
