Porsche 911 R Dropped as a New Lightweight Variant @ Geneva Motor Show 2016
MANILA: Porsche, the German super car manufacturer has recently come-up with an all-new variant of the iconic Porsche 911, showcased at the ongoing 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The much talked supercar is baptized as Porsche 911 R. The firm has posted various updates and videos on the twitter page promoting the newly introduced variant. While showcasing it, the manufacturer reveals that it took an entire one year to design this lightweight beast. The curves and cues received by the newly introduced variant are claimed to be inspired by the Porsche GT3 RS.
Carbon fibre and magnesium are extensively used to design this lightweight sports car. With two deleted rear seats, lightweight plastic made rear windscreen and rear side windows, it reduces the curb weight to 1370 Kg. As per the automaker, the showcased sports car shows a pinch of style taken from the Porsche GT3 RS, such as slightly tweaked rear bumper, rear spoiler, 20-inch lightweight wheels and twin Titanium exhaust pipes. It is offered with an enhanced audio system and air-conditioning system as optional extras.
The power of the Porsche 911 R comes from the same iconic engine revving-up 911 GT3 RS. It comes fitted with a 4.0-litre, flat-six cylinder engine mated with a 6-speed manual transmission. It is tuned to churn out a maximum power of 500 hp @ 8500 rpm and achieves a peak torque of 460 Nm @ 6250 rpm. The high-revving 4.0-litre engine can make 0-100 kmph in just 3.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 323 kmph. The power packed features include double de-clutching function and rear-steering wheel that offers you an improved riding and handling experience.
As of now, Porsche Philippines offers the entire line-up and variants offered globally. The recently showcased lightweight sports car comes with lots of refinements, as compared to the lately launched Porsche 911 Carrera S and Carrera 4S. In the month of February 2016, the German automaker has launched these models with a starting price of PhP 12,500,000. The German boffins have also tweaked the exterior, interior and powertrain of these models slightly.
On one hand, where the top speed achieved by the 911 R is 323 kmph, the noticeable tweak and tune-up done by the Porsche people is that they have installed the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) system to offer faster deceleration as well.
However, after the showcasing of this lightweight beast at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, we are hoping to catch a sight of it, sometime soon.
