This kit transforms the Mitsubishi Strada into a beastly off-roader

MANILA: Mitsubishi Strada, also known as the Triton in some markets, is a decent-looking pickup truck on any normal day. But the fact that it has a capable engine, urged Mitsubishi to introduce a conversion kit for it. These kits give the vehicle a complete makeover. In the past, we have seen Mitsubishi do something similar with its Barbarian SVP pack for the Strada. Now the Japanese guys have come up with a new kit called the Huntaway II.

As you can see in the pictures, the Strada after getting the treatment of the Huntaway II kit looks extremely rugged. The truck now sits a bit higher than before thanks to the lift kit and the massive 33-inch tall tires that are wrapped around 18-inch wheels. As you might have guessed these tires are not the usual ones. They are much wider than usual and to accommodate these the fenders have to be replaced with wider ones.

The dampers on this thing have also been updated to handle the unexpected terrains during off-roading. Also, there is a thick skid plate bolted on the front of the vehicle to protect the underbody from getting damaged by obstacles.

Both the front and the rear bumpers are now of steel and suit the overall character of this brutal machine. The front bumper gets an integrated bull bar. The bed of the Strada Huntaway II gets a wide-body treatment. The kit comes with snorkel as standard to keep you going even in the wettest conditions.

There is no mention of any changes in the interior of the Strada under the Huntaway II kit. What else remains unchanged is the engine. It is the similar 2.4-litre turbo diesel mill that spits out 184 PS of max power and 437 Nm of peak torque. It comes with a 5-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive as standard.

The Mitsubishi Strada Huntaway II definitely feels like a steal deal, especially for the off-road enthusiasts. However, people here in the Philippines will be disheartened because Mitsubishi is not bringing this Strada in the country. It is an exclusive deal only for the Kiwis (available only in New Zealand) and is a limited edition run of only 20 units. Bad luck, guys!
