Toyota Motor PH recalls nearly 3.5k units for faulty instrument clusters

MANILA: Nearly 3,500 vehicles in the Philippines are the subject of Toyota Motor Philippines’ (TMP) new special service campaign due to faulty combination meter systems fitted on four of its models.

The models involved in the campaign are the Toyota Alphard, Camry, Corolla Cross, and Corolla Altis.In its latest announcement, TMP said that a total of 3,416 units made up of the following are being recalled:
TMP explained that due to a programming error, the combination meter system (a 12.3-inch screen that displays warning lights, indicators, and gauges) fitted on the aforementioned vehicles repeatedly saves unnecessary data — causing the memory to be used up sooner than expected.

“If this happens, the screen may not turn on when starting the vehicle and remain off. Driving without a visible speedometer or warning lights may increase the risk of an accident in certain situations,” TMP noted.

According to TMP, involved clients shall be advised through Official Notification Letter and will be invited by authorized Toyota Dealers to reprogram or replace the affected portion for free.
The company also noted that the reprogramming software and replacement parts for the special service campaign involving the defective instrument cluster are “expected to be ready by October 2025 or later.”
However, TMP said that once repair parts are available, involved customers are highly encouraged to immediately set an appointment with any authorized Toyota dealer to perform the necessary repair and prevent problems from occurring.
Customers may also schedule the repair during the periodic maintenance service appointment if the vehicle is already due or approaching its regular maintenance schedule.
