Toyota Motor PH recalls select Alphard units

MANILA: MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is recalling the Alphard due to malfunctioning power distribution box (PDB) for its rear window defogger.  

The said portion manages and centralizes electrical power to the vehicle's many systems. 

Per TMP’s special web page for customer satisfaction campaign issuances, the PDB CSC for the Alphard affects units that were produced from December 17-24, 2024. Only 89 locally sold examples of the model are subject to the CSC. 

To note, the vehicles affected by the service campaign may have a “weak or missing connection” between their rear window defogger and the PDB. The said fault may cause malfunctions in the rear window defogger, leading to poor rear visibility during foggy or high-humidity conditions. 

For Alphard owners who want to determine if their units are included in the CSC, they can visit the official TMP website, navigate to the TMP online store, and find the section for CSCs. There is a section in the TMP online store where one can type down their Alphard’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) in a search bar. 

Alternatively, Alphard owners can also connect with TMP customer service representatives via the brand’s official Facebook page, its Customer Assistance Hotline (+632 8819 2912), or through the “Contact Support” function on the MyToyotaPH smartphone app. 

The replacement for affected Toyota Alphard PDBs is free if done through any authorized Toyota dealer.

Toyota Alphard in PH

In the Philippine market, the Toyota Alphard is offered as a luxury three-row model, ideal for ferrying executives or family. Price-wise, the well-appointed van starts at P4.671 million. 

Propelling the Toyota Alphard is a 2.5-liter inline-four hybrid engine that can produce a total of 247 horsepower and 270 Newton-meters of torque. Power is sent to its front wheels via a shift-by-wire continuously variable transmission (CVT) with a manual mode. 

In total, the Philippine-spec Toyota Alphard can seat up to seven occupants (including the driver). It also has leather upholstery, a dual-zone automatic climate control system, and a second row equipped with captain seats. Both front and second row seats have power-adjustability, while the third row has a 50:50 split-folding function. 

Onboard entertainment and navigation for the luxury van include a 14-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a 15-piece JBL speaker set. The main screen goes together with a 14-inch digital gauge cluster, a wireless smartphone charging pad, an HDMI port, and numerous USB ports.
