Toyota Motor Philippines recalls 12,124 Rush SUVs

MANILA: No matter how intensive testing an automaker makes its vehicles undergo, there is always some or the other issue found after the car has hit the roads. Recently, Suzuki Japan was forced to recall it's all-new Jimny due to a potential fuel leak issue. Considering the time taken by the Japanese automaker to bring out the compact 4x4 in the flesh, the recall was certainly quite surprising. Also, it makes one doubt the testing and quality check performed by Suzuki.

Anyway, the elephant in the room today is the Toyota Rush. The Japanese SUV is one of the more popular vehicles in the Philippines and has been doing well in the market ever since its inception. However, the fairy tale seems to have hit a rock. According to Toyota Motor Philippines, around 12,124 units of the Rush are said to be carrying a poorly programmed airbag control module. Due to the inappropriate programming, the curtain airbags on the SUV may get deployed when the rear wheels hit a pothole, a rock, or any other object. There couldn't be a better analogy, could there be?

The recall included Toyota Rush SUVs manufactured from April 2, 2018, to February 7, 2019. Toyota Motor Philippines will be replacing the faulty airbag computer assembly with a new one. Moreover, Toyota won't be charging the customer for the replacement. The automaker has already started contacting its customers for the replacement. Furthermore, Rush owners can also directly visit one of the many Toyota dealerships across the country and get their SUV checked.

Also called the baby Fortuner, the Toyota Rush for the Philippines comes in three variants. Powering the SUV is a 1.5-litre inline four-cylinder 2NR-VE engine with Dual VVT-i that makes 104 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 134 Nm. Manual, as well as automatic transmissions, are offered by the automaker. Also, the Rush is safe as a house thanks to the safety equipment onboard the comprises of multiple SRS airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, and much more.
