Volvo Cars Showcased its All-New Sedan S90, Germans Beware!

MANILA: Volvo Philippines recently added a gem to its limited but exquisite line-up that goes by the name Volvo XC90. Now, it seems that the Swedish auto brand has not limited itself to a high-end luxury SUV and further tried its hand over a sedan version of the same. So, in short you can say that the recently showcased Volvo S90 is a five-door sedan sibling of the massive XC90.

Unveiled yesterday to the press at Volvo Headquarter in Gothenburg, Sweden, this luxury sedan displayed a shift from the conventional old-aged design and tech theme. For the mango people, the car will debut at the Detroit Auto Show, scheduled for next month.

The sedan mirrors all the high-end features that one can see in the running XC90, with some additional features hinting towards advancement in the auto industry. Like for example, you'll find following astonishing features in the Volvo Car S90 –

• Pilot Assist, Volvo's move towards autonomous driving technology. The system works to a speed of 130 km/h and gives away gentle steering moves, making the car in-line.
• Moose, deer, elk and other animal detection function, wherein the car will first display a warning to the driver and if needed, will also give additional break pressure.
• Collision protection inputs, first it reduces the car's speed to 15 km/h, and in an avoidable situation, it would tighten the front seat belts.
• All these features are possible with the newly developed SPA platform that first supported the Volvo XC90.

As for the Volvo S90 engine specification, the car will have several engine options supporting it, like the T6 supercharged, 2.0-liter turbo 4-CYL, T8 Plug-in hybrid, the new T5 turbo and D5 diesel mill. Power and torque details are not out yet, but we expect the T6 and T8 mill to generate near 316 hp and 400 hp respectively. Anti-lag system that is common among rally cars will, for the first time, debut in S90, giving the car the much-needed boost at lower acceleration and during the time of launch. But the said system will only be available with the D5 diesel power mill. We hope that Volvo Philippines soon bring in the Volvo XC 90 sedan version, the S90 to our luxury sedan lacking market.
