Will this concept lay the foundation for the next-gen Toyota Avanza?
MANILA: It hasn’t been too long since Toyota introduced us all to the heavily-refreshed Avanza. At the 2019 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), Daihatsu has uncovered the HY Fun Concept, which is a hybrid MPV with a scintillating design. Looking at the Daihatsu HY Fun Concept, we might already be seeing what could the next-generation Avanza look like when it arrives.
Instead of an all-electric vehicle, Daihatsu wants the MPV to be a hybrid, which is also said to be more eco-friendly at the moment considering the high costs of lithium-ion batteries. The Daihatsu’s non-plug-in system derives electricity from the kinetic energy regained while decelerating and stores it in a battery. The vehicle is powered by an international combustion engine or an electric motor or both.
Emphasizing on the Daihatsu HY Fun Concept, the MPV can be seen sporting a sharp and expressive design philosophy. Thanks to a low roof and uniquely sculptured panels, the Daihatsu HY Concept looks very sleek and attractive. On the inside, there are three rows, which boast six seats. Moreover, the most interesting feature is that the first two rows of individual seats can turn around towards each other. This enables passengers to play virtual reality games together.
The size of the Daihatsu HY Fun Concept is very close to the current-generation Toyota Avanza and Daihatsu Xenia and it is a clear indication of what could the next-generation models of the two ever so popular MPVs might look like.
