2019 Suzuki Jimny - What to expect?

The Suzuki Jimny has a long history of its own. It was launched when there was no sign of such a compact rugged off-road SUV anywhere. The Jimny was welcomed by the masses with open arms. It served its purpose without any fuss. And that’s what Suzuki cars are all about. They’re affordable, feature-laden, and they are targeted for the larger lot of the population.

Now, years after the Jimny was first brought in the market, Suzuki is soon going to launch its upgraded variant. This new model will be the fourth generation of this boxy compact SUV, and it really deserves this upgrade. In fact, it deserved a major upgrade years ago, but for some reason, Suzuki decided to hold on to that thought for until 2019. Suzuki Jimny has been a very successful affair for the Japanese firm. So, the new Jimny has got a whole lot of responsibilities and expectations on its shoulders to fulfil. It will walk in the shoes of its predecessor but will have a new yet similar attitude. Here are a few things that you can expect to see in the new 2019 Jimny.

1- Exterior

One of the many reasons why the Suzuki Jimny was loved by everyone was its design. It was a box on wheels. But a good box. Since this design was very simple to make therefore it reduced the overall price of the Jimny. Also, it allowed people to take the Jimny off-road. Its design doesn’t care about any kind of aerodynamics at all. But that’s the point. While other manufacturers were trying to make their cars to have as less drag as possible, Suzuki was content and satisfied with its cute boxy Jimny and focussed on other aspects of the car to make it that much more desirable, satisfying, and worth each penny.

 

The new 2019 Suzuki Jimny is expected to carry forward the boxy design. Yes, there will definitely be certain upgrades in terms of finishing, features like lighting, paint schemes, new alloy wheels, etc., to meet today’s standards, but the overall silhouette of the Jimny would remain the same - a compact box on beefier tires ready to be taken off-road anytime.

2- Interior

Suzuki didn’t provide the Jimny with any major upgrade over its decades of existence. This means that even though it’s still capable of handling those off-road adventures of yours, it does feel outdated from the inside. Outdated, but not old. Suzuki will be upgrading the interior of the new 2019 Jimny.

We are expecting Suzuki to borrow many design cues and elements from its Swift lineup, and we’ve got zero complaints about that. The Swift is a handsome-looking car and has got very good interior as well. So, the new Jimny will definitely be more luxurious than it used to be. And would also have more of the latest bells and whistles.

In terms of feature here inside the cabin, we’re expecting Suzuki to include at least some of the most basic ones like steering mounted controls, use of good quality materials, better space management, more comfortable seats, etc.. Since we’re now in the digital era, we won’t be surprised if Suzuki would include a new touchscreen infotainment system in the 2019 Jimny.

3- Engine

It’s expected that the new 2019 Suzuki Jimny won’t be using its old engine anymore. There’s going to be a small engine, a 0.66-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit. This should be available with the base model of the Jimny. The higher-end model would get a bigger 1.5-liter 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine. It’s very unlikely that we would get to see a diesel engine option in the new Jimny. As far as the transmission is concerned, there would two options, a 4-speed automatic gearbox and a 5-speed manual for the enthusiastic lot of you. Both of these options should be available with these engines. There could also be an AWD option to serve Jimny’s off-road purpose.

4- Price

The outgoing model of the Suzuki Jimny falls in the price range of PHP 860,000 to PHP 915,000. Now, the new model with all those new bells and whistles will certainly be towards the dearer side by a bit. Since the whole idea behind the Jimmy is to reach out to the masses and let them enjoy this boxy compact SUV, Suzuki won’t be going overboard with the pricing of the new 2019 Jimny. We are expecting a hike of around PHP 50k. This is not an official figure, but just an estimate.

Suzuki will release the new pricing along with the list of features and variants of the 2019 Jimny pretty soon. And we’re expecting a launch in early next year.
