Hyundai Tucson: Which variant to buy?

Hyundai adopted its new Fluidic Design concept a few years ago. It started to implement this new concept in its products one-by-one. Hyundai Tucson, which really was not an attractive SUV, began grabbing a lot of road presence with its new design and looks.

At present, Hyundai offers the Tucson in two engine options and four different variants. Let us find out which is the best variant among them to suit your needs.

Engine

The Tucson comes with a 2.0-litre petrol engine that churns out 155 PS of maximum power at 6,200 rpm and 192 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. This comes mated with a 6-speed manual transmission. There is also an option for a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The other engine variant is the 2.0-litre CRDi e-VGT diesel unit. 185 PS of max power is extracted out from it at 4,000 rpm. It generates 402 Nm of peak torque at 1,750 to 2,750 rpm. Hyundai has made this engine available with two variants of the Tucson, but none of them has a manual transmission.

So, if you want to have a petrol-driven car, you have the freedom to pick from the manual and automatic transmission. But you cannot get a manual transmission with any of the two diesel variants.

Interior and exterior features

Hyundai Tucson has got a typical Hyundai-ish interior. The overall design of the cabin, the ambience, and the seats, all are familiar with what we have seen in other Hyundai models. So, what are the differences among the variants?

There are a few features that come only with the top-end CRDi GLS variant. They are as follows:

• Leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio and Bluetooth control
• Glovebox with cooling vents and illumination
• Luggage net and screen
• Rear AC vents

The exterior of the Tucson also gets a special treatment for the top-end diesel variant. Hyundai has made sure that this variant has its perks, and stand out of the crowd. The elements that you can find only in this model include-

• Chrome door handles
• ORVMs is electrically adjustable and heated
• ORVMs can also be electrically folded
• Front fog lamps
• Roof rack
• 18-inch alloy wheels

Safety features

Hyundai has made sure that the overall strength and rigidity of the Tucson is rock-solid. It has used very high quality advanced high strength steel (AHSS), and stamping process, to make sure that the Tucson has the class-leading rigidity.

There are a few standard features that you can find in all the variants. They include driver-side airbag, ABS with EBD, and Child Safety Rear Door Locking. However, if you want to have some more such feature - like dual airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Downhill Brake Control (DBC), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), smart key with keyless push button start stop functionality, immobilizer, rear parking assist system - you will need to extend your budget by a bit and get the CRDi GLS model.

All the aforementioned features (interior, exterior, safety) that are exclusive to the highest variant of the Tucson, do not make the other variants useless. It all comes down to your requirements, needs, and taste.
