Toyota Wigo: Ten features we like
Small is the new big and it is that particular theory which every other automobile manufacturer is following nowadays. Whether it comes to downsizing the engine or the footprint, customers now prefer compact cars which are high on efficiency and features, like the major premium cars but are easy to drive.
In the Philippines market, the Japanese giant Toyota too is following this trend, with its most compact car, the Wigo. It is the flag bearer of the most affordable car in Toyota’s lineup in the country. But then, there’s more to the story apart from being compact, which has made the Wigo a success phenomenon in terms of volumes. Here are top ten reasons why one should consider Wigo while buying a compact city hatchback:-
It’s a Toyota
The brand Toyota is globally well known for its super-compliancy on the aspect of QDR – quality, durability, and reliability. And we appreciate how Toyota follows this theory for all of its products, even the smallest of them all, the Wigo. Being a small car, the Wigo is meant to be run trouble-free, and with that Toyota badge on it, it certainly comes with a peace-of-mind virtue.
Small footprint
With the increasing traffic and congestion on roads, people now prefer cars which do have small dimensions but are big on the factor of quality and features. With a total length of 3660 mm and a width of 1600 mm, the Toyota Wigo is a compact car which can squeeze through congested roads easily.
It’s quite spacious
Compact cars generally compromise on the aspect of space, for the fact that there dimensions don’t allow much scope for it. We all have known Toyotas of the past to be comfortable and spacious, and the Toyota Wigo, even after its compact dimensions, satisfies occupants the amount of space it has on offer, along with the class-leading headroom and legroom.
It certainly looks apart
It’s a common perception about the small cars that they look boring and their focus is on functionality over form. However, the Toyota Wigo is designed to change that perception, with an equal focus on functionality and form. Its design language shared with the premium Toyotas like the Corolla and RAV-4. The Wigo, with its edgy design elements on the outside, is quite an impressive car in this segment.
Decent fuel efficiency
Small cars are meant to be frugal, and in this particular segment to which the Toyota Wigo belongs, it is one of the paramount aspects to finalise a car purchase, given the fact that this segment targets the budget-conscious buyers. Thankfully, the Wigo returns a fuel economy in the range of 13-14 kmpl in city conditions, which is decent enough to keep your wallet in check.
Refined engine
Given its compactness and segment to which it belongs, the Toyota Wigo doesn’t have a breath-taking technology in the engine department. However, considering the fact that the world is moving towards three-cylinder engines for better efficiency and less pollution, the Wigo’s 1.0-litre three-cylinder mill, which generates 66 bhp of power and 89 Nm of torque feels apt for the job.
Both transmission options
Considering the fact that the sales of automatic cars are on a rise, it’s very appreciable that the Toyota Wigo is being offered with both manual and automatic transmission options. The Wigo is available in only two variants, one each for both gearboxes. While the manual gearbox is a 5-speed unit, the automatic gearbox is a conventional 4-speed torque converter.
Decently equipped with features
Small budget hatchbacks are considered to be plain-jane when it comes to being equipped with comfort and convenience. However, the Toyota Wigo impresses one with its goodies which are generally found in cars from one segment above, the list of which includes a touchscreen music system, projector headlamps, fog lamps, steering mounted audio, Bluetooth controls, and diamond cut alloy wheels.
Safety as standard
Toyota globally is known to stuff its cars with safety features as standard, no matter if they sacrifice on comfort and convenience features. The Wigo, like all the other Toyota products, comes with dual airbags and ABS as standard in all the variants, which is quite commendable, given that these safety features increase the cost inputs in the manufacturing of small cars.
Interesting colors to choose from
Apart from the regular shades of black, grey, silver, and white, the new Toyota Wigo comes in two new eye-catching colors of red and orange, which certainly complement with the funky design of the car.
Aren't these ten amazing reasons enough to love the Wigo? If it's a no, we'll say go and test drive this Toyota before coming down to a conclusion.
