2018 Suzuki Swift scores 4 stars at ASEAN NCAP

MANILA: With the growing concern over the passenger safety, every notable auto manufacturer is focused on elevating their vehicle safety standards. New Suzuki Swift acquired four out of five stars in the ASEAN NCAP crash test for its new hatch that can be tagged as quite an impressive performance.

The Suzuki Swift is reported to have shown quality performance in the safety rating program, where it scored excellent in both child and adult vehicle occupant section. The vehicle scored 12.11 points out of 16 in the child occupant protection category in the frontal crash test. Also, it acquired 8 out of 8 in the side impact crash test.

In the adult passenger protection category, the Suzuki hatchback managed to collect 13.63 points out of 16 in the frontal crash test. Under T-bone car collision circumstances, the vehicle model is certain to uphold the safety of the occupants inside.

It, however, seemed to be on a shaky ground from side crash test. Plus, as pointed by the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asia, two vital safety features, like stability control and side airbags, are available in a limited form. Not all important safety features come standard across all models bound for a specified country.

The Singapore-spec Suzuki Swift only comes equipped with curtain and side airbags. Similarly, only the Thailand-bound models have stability control safety feature. On the other hand, double front airbags, ISOFIX mounts for child seats, and anti-lock brakes come as standard safety features across all the Suzuki Swift models sold in the Philippines.

ASEAN New Car Assessment Program offers unbiased consumer information on the safety aspects of new vehicles in the region. The programs and crash test formulated by them helps in assessing the performance of the car being tested against diverse kind of safety challenges on road. According to the test result, Suzuki Swift is undoubtedly a safe option. However, focusing more on safety kits for all regions equally can make it safer.
