2019 Honda CR-V recalled due to faulty airbag ingredient

MANILA: Airbags and recall are two words which have been going together for a while now, haven’t they? If the Takata global airbag recall wasn’t enough, Honda has messed the dish itself on more than 100,000 units of its 2019 CR-V.

The Japanese automaker has been forced to recall around 137,000 units of 2019 CR-V SUVs due to a faulty element that can all of a sudden deploy the airbags without giving the occupants any kind of warning. Let’s talk about the issue in detail.

There are wiring harness and cables of the Honda CR-V airbag system which can be damaged by metal burrs inside the steering wheel of the SUV. The result could be a short circuit or overheating which can ultimately cause the airbags to deploy without any kind of warning and cause injuries to the occupants.

As a matter of fact, around six accidents have already been reported in which three people got injured. To resolve the issue, the Japanese automaker will install a protective cover on the steering wheel core. Also, the clock-spring and wiring harnesses will be replaced.
