7 things to know about 2020 Toyota Hilux and its Sept. 12 digital launch

MANILA: We’re only days away from the launch of the 2020 Toyota Hilux, and if you’re in the market for a pickup truck, this should prove to be a very exciting time.

If you’re wondering what to expect, here are 7 things about the facelifted truck and even about the launch event that guarantees to not only entertain, but also let you pick up (pardon the pun) awesome prizes.

New look

The overall look largely remains, the same save for a bigger version of the hexagonal-shaped front grille that now comes with thicker cladding around it. It also has newly designed bi-beam LED headlamps with DRL (daytime running light) as well as the LED light-guiding taillights.

More power

The Hilux still has two engine options differing in displacement and output – a 2.8L and a 2.4L. While the latter remains the same, the 2.8L engine gets 15% more horsepower and 11% more torque. It now delivers 201hp and 500Nm.

Improved cabin

The infotainment system should be getting an eight-inch display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a new MID (multi-information display) offers new information screens and a digital speedometer display.

Better performance and fuel efficiency

Idling has been reduced from 850rpm (revolutions per minute) to 680rpm, which makes it 11% more fuel efficient than the previous generation while also giving it better off-road traction.

Toyota Safety Sense

By all accounts, the top-specification level will come with Toyota Safety Sense. This is the automaker’s suite of advanced safety technologies that come with Pre-Collision System, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and Lane Departure Alert.

Virtual concert

The digital launch event will happen live and simultaneously on Toyota Motor Philippines Facebookand YouTube pages. It will be hosted by comedian Ramon Bautista, and a big virtual concert by Spongecola will follow.

Prizes

Attendees are advised to pay attention to various features and specs of the 2020 Toyota Hilux flashed or played on screen as event host Ramon Bautista will be doing an interactive Q&A and give away e-vouchers to participants with the correct answer.
