Filipino comedienne 'Pokwang' purchases Toyota Hiace Grandia

MANILA: Actress Marietta Subong, also known as Pokwang, has purchased a brand-new Toyota Hiace GL Grandia.

Per the social media post of Toyota Santa Rosa, Subong is now a proud owner of the 12-seater people mover. While not specified, one can assume that Pokwang’s variant of choice is the one fitted with an automatic transmission. 

Of note, the Toyota Hiace GL Grandia is offered in two trims, the other one being equipped with a manual gearbox.

For those interested, here is a quick look at the notable specifications of the modest van.

Exterior

Outside, the Toyota Hiace GL Grandia wears a more modern fascia that boasts an abundance of straight lines and sharp angles. It also has a more pronounced snout than more traditional vans on the market, such as the revived Mitsubishi Versa and its cousin the Nissan Urvan.

Here, one can find a pair of bi-beam multi-reflector halogen headlamps with integrated turn signals. It also gets fog lamps for added visibility.

To its side are squarish mirrors with power adjust and retract functions. Simple and clean are its flanks with body-colored door handles, while its pillars and window surround are colored in black. 

It rides in a set of 16-inch monotone alloy wheels shod in 235/65 highway tires.

At the back, the Toyota Hiace GL Grandia comes with a large glass, a tailgate garnish, and bulb-type taillights. Finished in chrome is the Toyota badge, as well as the “HIACE” nameplate and the “GL Grandia” trim script.

Overall, the van looks stylish without being overly loud, ideal for actors and actresses who prefer to keep a low profile when traveling, either alone for a shoot or for weekend trips with the fam.

Interior

Inside, the Toyota Hiace GL Grandia has seating for 12 people. The seats, which are upholstered with fabric and vinyl leather, are plush and durable at the same time. And compared to the standard seats on most vans, these provide better comfort as they can recline, which is good for long drives.

For keeping beverages, the vehicle has 17 cup holders at the rear. There are also seatback pockets for keeping other small daily carry items. Juicing up gadgets is also possible, as there are two accessory connectors for the rear passengers, while a 12-volt socket is available for those sitting at the front.

The driver, too, gets toys to play with, such as an instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch train-film transistor multi-information screen and an eight-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for connecting smart devices and integrating applications for music and navigation.

• Light control system
• Key remind warning

The above features are good for ensuring comfort and convenience not only for the actress, but also her family.

Powertrain, chassis

Under the hood, the Toyota Hiace GL Grandia is powered by a 2.8-liter diesel engine mated to either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission.

On paper, the said setup makes approximately 174 horsepower and up to 450 Newton-meters of torque. These numbers are ideal for hauling both people and cargo, which makes the van suitable for almost any type of work the actress might subject it to.
