Ford unveils its latest Explorer as a Police cruiser

MANILA: The all-new Ford Explorer is getting an unusual reveal. Even though the production model is not showcased, we have a basic idea of how it'll look thanks to the details dropped by the American automaker. The Ford Police Interceptor utility, a hybrid version of the Explorer SUV has already captured 65% of the American Patrol forces.

 

The Police Interceptor is integrated with a drivetrain that transmits power to all four wheels. Ford hasn't provided any further details beyond an approximate combined rating of 10 kmph, a huge enhancement as compared to the present 4-wheel drive Explorer V6's 8 kmph combined. We do expect a gasoline-electric powertrain version of the Explorer will soon come into production as the company plans to hybridize most of its trucks and SUV by 2020.

Another detail that Ford revealed is that the new 2020 model will have more cargo space as compared to the outgoing Police Interceptor Utility and it might translate to other variations.
From the pictures, it is clear that the Explorer will house the Expedition's straight window line. The roofline appears to be jauntier and the tailgate windshield features a steeper angle than before. The rear of the vehicle is expected to be similar to its predecessor.

The overall look appears to be different from the current model. To start with, the headlights look slimmer and more aggressive. The front end of the vehicle is secured by a bar and hence the view of the grill is unclear. However, we could see trapezoidal air intakes at the corner and it houses a LED flashers.

Another update from Ford was the announcement of a hybrid version of the Explorer for the civilians.
Ford didn’t give out much information about the variant, but the company is targeting a fuel consumption of 10.2kmpl.
